What is this course for?
Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (1981) an employer
must ensure that there is adequate First Aid provision in the workplace.
This is established by risk assessments.
The Health and safety Executive recommends that an 'Appointed Person'
is trained in First Aid. We recommend a one day course is attended
to meet these requirements.
Appointed Persons can be given responsibility for ordering and replenishing
the First Aid kits and they can also complete the Accident Report form/book.
They may also be able to cover for the fully qualified (four day) First
Aider in their absence (exceptional circumstances only!)
The syllabus?
The one day course covers:
What to do in an emergency
How to deal with an unconscious casualty
How to perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
How to manage wounds and bleeding
This qualification is valid for three years
Is there an exam?
No the course is continually assessed during the course
Who should attend?
Someone who:
Has the ability to cope on stressful and physically demanding emergency
procedures
Is reliable with good communication skill
Can leave their normal duties quickly to respond to an emergency.
