What's this course for?

This course is aimed at those who work or volunteer in the community or anyone who wishes to learn a comprehensive syllabus of first aid for the whole family (including children and infant resuscitation skills) and do not require the HSE four day First Aid at Work qualification.

What's in the syllabus?

This course is designed to run for a minimum of 16 hours, 20 including child and infant. The qualification is valid for three years.
The students will learn about:

  • Incident management
  • Contents of First Aid Kits
  • Managment of an unconscious casualty
  • Control of bleeding
  • Resuscitation of children and infants
  • Resuscitaion of adults
  • Management of choking
  • Medical conditions common in adults
  • Medical conditions common in children and infants
  • Incident management

Is there an exam?

Yes

The course is externally assessed this consists of:

Practical CPR assessment and casualty management skills
Management of bleeding
Theory test (multiple choice question paper)
