Emergency First Aid at Work
What is this course for?
Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (1981) an employer must ensure that there is adequate First Aid provision in the workplace. This is established by risk assessments.
If your risk assessment identifies that you are a lower risk organisation you will require a qualified First Aider. This one day course is for you.
How do i decide if we need this course?
You MUST complete a First Aid needs risk assessment.

Who should attend?
The selection of employees who will be trained as First Aiders must consider an individuals:
Reliability, disposition and communication skills
Aptitude and ability to absorb new knowledge and learn new skills
Ability to cope with stressful and physically demanding emergency procedures
That they could leave their duties immediately to respond to an emergency in the workplace
Don't send someone who can't stand the sight of blood...
What's in the syllabus?
This course involves a minimum of six hours contact teaching time and is normally run over one day. Students will be trained in the procedures, safety requirements and management skills for First Aid.
No previous experience or knowledge is required to attend this course.

Students will learn how to:
Manage emergency situations, safety and promptly
Use First Aid equipment
Understand the duties of employers and the legal framework
Maintain simple factual records
Recognise the importance of personal hygiene in First Aid procedures
Manage the transportation of the casualty as required
Recognise and manage a range of minor injuries and illnesses
Perform effective Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
Is there an exam?
No this course is continually assessed, students must participate in all areas of the course.
Extra bit of info...
The HSE "strongly recommends" annual training for First Aiders following qualification. This can be arranged and staff recalled for those wishing to comply with the recommendation.
