CIEH Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector
This qualification sets the minimum standard for all those in or entering the teaching, learning and development sector. It introduces the knowledge and skills required by teachers to develop and deliver programmes, provide learning support and take responsibility in managing the learning process in post-16 education.
Who needs this qualification?
Anyone entering teaching or training roles or already in-service who needs to achieve the minimum threshold status as a teacher within the following:
- Further Education College
- Adult and community learning centre
- Work-based learning or training organisation
Why is this training important?
By 2010 anyone who teaches courses that are publicly-funded will have to be qualified. This qualification meets the basic minimum standard for those entering the lifelong learning profession and confers a threshold licence to teach.
Learning outcomes
- Understand your own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
- Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches within a specialist area
- Demonstrate your session planning skills – plan, deliver, observe and evaluate a micro-teaching session
- Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions that motivate learners
- Understand the use of different assessment methods
- Understand and analyse the need for accurate record keeping and procedures that can be adopted – including internal and external assessment information

First Aid at Work Lay Trainer Assessor course
What's this course for?
Anyone wishing to Train or Assess this area of Health and Safety in the Workplace. Those with responsibility for In house training for staff. This is not a teacher qualification
Prerequisites
HSE four day First Aid at Work qualification renewed at least twice
Training/Teaching and assessing qualifications or experience
Some one who has responsibility for First Aid
Syllabus
- Teaching and assessing First aid
- Teaching techniques
- Knowledge development of first aid
- Meeting the HSE license requirements
- Using FATE course materials
- Using FATE administration materials
- Those attending the course must agree to meet the requirements of the FATE HSE license and franchise into FATE for the provision of Certificates and Manuals for the FAW courses.

- Trainer Assessors will receive an administration pack.
- Schemes of work and lesson plans for the First Aid at Work, Paediatric First Aid, Emergency First Aid at Work qualifications and the Appointed Person course.
- Deliver the full range of HSE first aid qualifications implemented in October 2009
- Yearly updates as required by the HSE
- Designated mentor available to assist you through your probationary period
- Quarterly news letter to keep you up to date
After the course:
Candidates will be required the run an FAW and assess an FAW course to complete the 12 month probationary period.
Is there an exam?
No, the course is continuously assessed with a final presentation to be completed at the end of the course.

National Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessor Course
Whats this course for?
Those qualified to Full National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) who would like to become a lifeguard trainer and provide the NPLQ course for prospective Lifeguards and ongoing inservice training for qualified Lifeguards.
Prerequisites?
- Hold a current Full NPLQ
- Be 18 years old at the commencement of the course
- Hold Membership with RLSS UK
Course content: Divided into Four Units and subdivided into Elements
- TA Unit One: Training the Trainer
- TA Unit Two: Training the Assessor
- TA Unit Three: Lifesupport
- TA Unit Four: Pool Lifeguarding

Assessment:
Ongoing assessment of sk ills, Portfolio completion on the course, Presentations both practical and classroom based
Post course requirements: (two year probationary period)
- To teach an minimum of four new candidates on an NPLQ course set up by the probationary Trainer
- Assess a group of new NPLQ candidates
- Maintain their own NPLQ
