What's this course for?
The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, place a general duty on employers to ensure that there is adequate First Aid provision for their employees should they become ill or suffer injury at work. This course is designed to meet these requirements.

Who should attend?
The selection of employees who will be trained as First Aiders must consider an individuals:
Reliability, disposition and communication skills
Aptitude and ability to absorb new knowledge and learn new skills
Ability to cope with stressful and physically demanding emergency procedures
That they could leave their duties immediately to respond to an emergency in the workplace

What's in the syllabus?
This course involves a minimum for 24 hours contact teaching time and is normally run over four consecutive days. Students will be trained in the procedures, safety requirements and management skills for First Aid.

No previous experience or knowledge is required to attend this course.

Students will learn how to:
Manage emergency situations, safety and promptly
Use First Aid equipment
Understand the duties of employers and the legal framework
Maintain simple factual records
Recognise the importance of personal hygiene in First Aid procedures
Manage the transportation of the casualty as required
Recognise and manage a range of major injuries and illnesses
Recognise and manage a range of minor injuries and illnesses
Perform effective Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

Is there an exam?
Yes

The course is externally assessed this consists of:
Practical CPR assessment and casualty management skills
First Aid scenarios
Theory test (multiple choice question paper)

What's this course for?

Those who currently hold a valid four Day First Aid at Work qualification who are required to revalidate their certificate

What's in the syllabus?
This course involves a minimum for 12 hours contact teaching time and is normally run over two days. Students will have their knowledge and skills refreshed in the procedures, safety requirements and management skills for First Aid.

Students will recap:
Manage emergency situations, safety and promptly
Use First Aid equipment
Understand the duties of employers and the legal framework
Maintain simple factual records
Recognise the importance of personal hygiene in First Aid procedures
Manage the transportation of the casualty as required
Recognise and manage a range of major injuries and illnesses
Recognise and manage a range of minor injuries and illnesses
Perform effective Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

Skills update sessions 1 day
What's this course for?
This course allow First Aiders to maintain their skills, increase confidence and network with other First Aiders. It is recommended that First Aiders update their skills at least once during the three year qualification period. This is not a re qualification course.

Updates and changes to First Aid protocols
Any area requested by the delegates

What's this course for?
Anyone wishing to Train or Assess this area of Health and Safety in the Workplace. Those with responsibility for In house training for staff. This is not a teacher qualification

Prerequisites
HSE four day First Aid at Work qualification renewed at least twice
Training/Teaching and assessing qualifications or experience
Some one who has responsibility for First Aid

Syllabus
Teaching and assessing First aid
Teaching techniques
Knowledge development of first aid
Meeting the HSE license requirements
Using FATE course materials
Using FATE administration materials
Those attending the course must agree to meet the requirements of the FATE HSE license and franchise into FATE for the provision of Certificates and Manuals for the FAW courses.

What support is available?
• Trainer Assessors will receive an administration pack.
• Schemes of work and lesson plans for the FAW, Paediatric First Aid, Emergency Aid in the Work Place for the Appointed Person.
• You will automatically be able to use the new HSE qualifications when implemented in October 2009
• Yearly updates as required by the HSE
• Designated mentor available to assist you through your probationary period
• Quarterly news letter to keep you up to date

After the course:
Candidates will be required the run an FAW and assess an FAW course to complete the 12 month probationary period.

Is there an exam?
No, the course is continuously assessed with a final presentation to be completed at the end of the course.
