What's this course for?
This course is recognised by pool operators across the country. The course is 38 hours minimum contact teaching time and normally run over 6 consecutive days, extended course are available. The qualification comprises two units.

Who should attend?
Competent swimmers over the age of 16 years. It is recommended that prospective students should be able to perform the following tasks prior to attending a course:
You should be fit and healthy
Able to swim 50 metres in one minute or less
Able to swim 100 metres on their front and back without pausing
Able to jump or dive into deep water
Able to surface dive to 1.5 metres depth
Able to climb out of a pool unaided

What's in the syllabus?
Unit 1
The principles of lifesaving and swimming pool supervision, this is made up of four elements which are externally assessed.
Rescue skills, lifeguard underpinning subject knowledge, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and First Aid skills

Unit 2
The application of supervision and rescue in a swimming pool. This unit is made up of seven elements and is continually assessed by the course tutor.
Understanding of Pool Safety Operation Procedures

Is there an exam?
Yes, this course is externally assessed for unit one and continually assessed by the course tutor for unit 2. The assessment for unit 1 does not include a written test.

Who is for?
Those who already have to Unit 1 Trainer Assessor Qualification and those wishing to train and assess unit 2 of the NPLQ qualification.

national rescue award for swimming teachers and coaches (RLSS UK)

Who is this for?
This qualification is aimed at those who teach, coach or run any programmed activity in a pool.
Endorsed by the ASA, ISRM & ISTC, it is also recognised in “Managing Health & Safety in Swimming Pools”

Prerequisites:
age 16 years or over, confident in the water

Syllabus:
practical lifesaving skills/CPR and safe activity management

Duration:
12 hours plus exam

Is there an exam:
Yes externally assessed

Valid for:
24 months

Whats this course for?
This short course is to revalidate units 1 & 2 of the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.

Prerequisites?
You should have attended and have record of regular ongoing training over a 24 month period to attend this course
Your qualifcation must not expire prior to the second day of the course
You must have evidence of qualification in both units

Exam syllabus?
This is identical to your original qualification exam

national pool lifeguard trainer assessor (unit 1) qualification

Whats this course for?
The Trainer Assessor qualification is for those who wish to train and assess a range of the RLSS UK awards and provide in service training of lifeguards and ancillary staff.

Prerequisites?
Over the age of 18yrs, NPLQ units one and two, become a member of the RLSS UK, previous teaching and coach experience is advantageous

Exam syllabus?
Train the Trainer unit 1
Train the assessor unit 2
Life Support Trainer and Assessor unit 3
NPLQ Trainer and Assessor unit 4

Is there an exam?
No, on going assessment of Training and Assessing skills, Candidates must run an NPLQ course and assess NPLQ to complete their probationary period.
